Controversial and compelling, this audiobook reconstructs the murder in 1959 of a Kansas farmer, his wife and both their children. Truman Capote's comprehensive study of the killings and subsequent investigation explores the circumstances surrounding this terrible crime and the effect it had on those involved. At the centre of his study are the amoral young killers Perry Smith and Dick Hickcock, who, vividly drawn by Capote, are shown to be reprehensible yet entirely and frighteningly human.

In Cold Blood: A True Account of a Multiple Murder and Its Consequences.
Truman Capote (1924-1984) descibed In Cold Blood as a "non-fiction novel". The book was published in January 1966. It details the horrific murders of four members of the Clutter family in the small farming community of Holcomb, Kansas, United States, in 1959. Capote learned of the murders before the killers were captured, and he traveled to Kansas to write about the crime. He was accompanied by his childhood friend and fellow author Harper Lee, who is best known for her novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. Truman Capote was often invited on to American TV talk shows as he had a good sense of humour while he was also an openly gay white man with a Southern accent, which in the 1950s and 60's was an unusual mix (and arguably still is.) In Cold Blood became an immediate success and is the second-best-selling true crime book in history. (Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi is the first). It mentions on the page that William Hope is the narrator however I've listened to Scott Brick's narration and if I had to guess I would say that the narrator is Scott Brick. Apparently William Hope is the narrator on the audio cassette of In Cold Blood, which might explain the confusion. I didn't think that I would like this audiobook as I'm not a big fan of the true crime genre but in this case I was wrong, I found the audiobook to be an excellent listen and the narration is first class.
