Brain Tumour Awareness Month
March is Brain Tumour Awareness Month and an opportunity to shine a light on this neglected condition.
Over 80,000 people in the UK are living with a brain tumour diagnosis and the impact that this brings, with 16,000 people being diagnosed each year.
At brainstrust, we believe in a world where people with a brain tumour and their loved ones are involved, resourced, confident and connected. We provide personalised support and build resources that help people with a brain tumour and their loved ones live the life they want after diagnosis.
Being told that you have a brain tumour, means that life can change in an instant and people can experience complex challenges that have a huge impact on their lives. Some of the side effects can include visual impairment, poor memory, cognitive challenges and fatigue.
Being able to signpost our community to organisations like Listening Books, enables people living with a brain tumour to continue getting enjoyment out of books when reading the printed word may be challenging for them.
We talk a lot with our community about the importance of self-care and taking time to engage in things that make their heart sing. Being able to enjoy their favourite book in a way that is accessible to them can have a positive impact on their day.
Just recently on one of our regular online meetup sessions, people were expressing missing being able to read books as a result of their brain tumour, so being able to signpost them to Listening Books was really beneficial and positively received.
