9 New Audiobooks for Autumn
The nights are getting longer, and this autumn we have some excellent new additions to our library.
Whether you're commuting to work or school on a chilly morning, or just hiding under the duvet for a few more hours, we've got something for you. There are audiobooks about queens, crime, Christmas, and everything in between, so you're bound to find something you love!
The Mystery of Three Quarters by Sophie Hannah (HarperCollins)
This is the third in a series of mysteries featuring Agatha Christie's legendary detective Hercule Poirot. The sleuth returns to his home one day to find an angry woman on his doorstep, demanding to know why he has sent her a letter accusing her of murdering a man named Barnabas Pandy, who she has neverheard of. Poirot has also never heard of him, and certainly didn't send the letter. He sets out to discover the identity of the mystery letter writer, who Barnabus Pandy is, and whether or not he's really been murdered.

The Queen's Fool by Philippa Gregory (HarperCollins)
In this gripping new novel set in the Tudor court in 1533 a young woman is caught between the rivalry of two royal sisters. Forced out of Spain by the Inquisition, Hannah Green arrives in England and is tasked with keeping watch on Princess Mary, heir to the throne of the ailing King Edward. But Mary's half-sister Elizabeth is also ready to take the throne, and Hannah must navigate her way through the hostile court if she is to survive.
This is another epic, historical re-imagining from Philippa Gregory. We can't wait to start listening!
The Bolds and The Bolds To The Rescue by Julian Clary (W. F. Howes)
The Bolds is the wonderfully silly children's series by comedian Julian Clary. The first book in the series introduces the Bolds, a family of hyenas pretending to live as humans in London. In the second book, The Bolds To The Rescue, the family tries to keep up with all the animals they've invited to stay at their house.
These are delightful, funny books with an underlying message about accepting those who are different from the norm. They are suitable for children aged 7 and over, and great for reluctant readers or listeners!
Lies Sleeping by Ben Aaronovitch (Orion)
We're very excited to have the much anticipated seventh instalment of the Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch available this autumn! In Lies Sleeping, Peter Grant, Detective Constable and apprentice wizard, is now assisting the Metropolitan Police in bringing down Martin Chorley, aka the Faceless Man, who's wanted for multiple counts of murder, fraud, and crimes against humanity. Peter uncovers a clue that Chorley, far from being finished, is executing the final stages of a long term plan that has its roots in London's two thousand bloody years of history, and could literally bring the city to its knees.

Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney (W. F. Howes)
The author of our next pick won the Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year award in 2017, and Conversations with Friends was shortlisted for many other prestigious prizes in 2017. It follows the complicated life and loves of 21-year-old Frances, a student and aspiring writer living in Dublin. When Frances gets unexpectedly closer to an older, married man, the witty but emotionally-sparse Frances is forced to confront her own vulnerabilities for the first time.
Lethal White by Robert Galbraith (Little, Brown)
Are you loving the series of novels by J. K. Rowling's alter-ego Robert Galbraith? Then we have a treat for you! Lethal White is the fourth book in the Cormoran Strike series, and finds Strike approached by a troubled young man called Billy, who thinks he witnessed a crime as a child. While Billy is obviously mentally distressed, and cannot remember many concrete details, Strike believes there is something sincere about him and his story. Strike and Robin Ellacott - once his assistant, now a parter in the agency - set off on a twisting trail that leads them through the backstreets of London, into a secretive inner sanctum within Parliament, and to a beautiful but sinister manor house deep in the countryside.

Fire and Blood by George R. R. Martin (HarperCollins)
If you love Game of Thrones then your wait for the next book set in Westeros is over! Set 300 years before the events in the series, Fire and Blood is the first in a two-part history of the Targaryens in Westeros told by Archmaester Gyldayn. It chronicles the conquest that united the Seven Kingdoms under Targaryen rule through to the dance of dragons: the Targaryen civil war that nearly ended their dynasty forever.

My Mad Dad by Robyn Hollingworth (Orion)
