Robin Stevens: Author Interview

November 5, 2018 0 Comments

Robin Stevens is the author of the bestselling Murder Most Unladylike series and The Guggenheim Mystery. She was born in America, but grew up in England. She attended Cheltenham Ladies College, where she read a lot of murder mysteries. The Murder Most Unladylike series follows Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong, who set up the Wells and Wong detective society, and investigate their first case after Hazel discovers the murder of the science teacher Miss Bell at the Deepdean School for Girls.

She spoke to Abigail Jaggers about writing, detection, and audiobooks!

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

'Wherever the girls go there seems to be a dead body that they have to solve...'

The Agatha Christie Detective Club:

'They would get together and talk about their favourite crimes'

Developing The Main Characters of the Murder Most Unladylike series:

'Hazel's learning to step up and be a hero, as well as Daisy's sidekick'

Robin's Boarding School Experiences:

I was ready to have a book boarding school experience, and it wasn't quite that!

What Books Inspired Her To Write:

I read my first Agatha Christie when I was 12

Researching Her Books:

I think there's something very special that you get from being physically in a place

The Audiobooks for Murder Most Unladylike and The Guggenheim Mystery:

It's just so amazing to hear my words read out by a professional actor!

Siobhan Dowd and Continuing The London Eye Mystery:

She left behind just the title of The Guggenheim Mystery

Writing About Difference And Standing Out in Her Books:

It is hard to be the person in the group that stands out

Visiting a Modern Police Station:

It was really interesting to see how different policing is now to how it was in the 1930s!
